The Fruit of the Democratic System : 39.3 Trillions in Losses Due to Corruption

The Chairman of Political Division of Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), Yahya Abdurrahman, warned people not to place hope or believe in the democratic system. “People should not fall into the same pit over and over again to believe in the democratic system and the corrupt rulers,” he told mediaumat.com, Thursday (6/12).

According to him, besides its contradiction with Islamic creed, democracy systematically creates mentally corrupt politicians and officials. “Corruption is also due to the high cost of politics in the democratic system. The regional and general elections would always require high expense, which in the end leads to the corrupt attitudes of the officials to recoup the initial capital they spent, “he explained.

Previously, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reported the State suffered 39.3 trillions in losses due to corruption during 2004-2011. Deputy Chairman of KPK, Busyro Muqoddas, explained that the sum of money can be used to build 393.000 units of new houses, provide free schooling for 68 million children of primary school for a full year, and buy 7.9 million units of computers in schools as a learning tool.
