Female Muslims Decry Marginalization in Indonesia Meeting

Jakarta, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) Islamic organization Hizbut Tahrir is set to hold an International Women”s Conference on December 22 at Sahid Jaya Hotel, Jakarta and its main theme will be women marginalization. The Conference will discuss the causes of and solutions to desperate poverty, widespread exploitation, and general economic oppression affecting millions of women across the Muslim world and globally.

The upcoming conference themed “The Khilafah: Protecting Women from Poverty and Enslavement” will gather 1,500 influential women from across the world involving political activists, journalists, academics, teachers, professors, university students, lawyers, community leaders, and representatives of various organizations.

They will also highlight the failure of the current leadership in the Muslim world to provide financial security for Muslim women and to protect them from enslavement.

Dr. Nazreen Nawaz, Women’s Representative of The Central Media Office of Hizbut Tahrir, commented, “For too long, Western capitalist states have been selling the illusion to the world that the capitalist system and a free-market economy are the best ways to establish economic stability and prosperity for women.”

In fact, she said, it is a corrosive ideology, that embraces the interest-based, debt-fuelled model of growth built on greed and credit, has created volatile economies, mass unemployment, and increases the gap between rich and poor, men and women.

It is necessary to implement a system that puts human needs first, eradicates poverty, promotes a new political and economic vision for women in the Muslim world and fosters equitable distribution of wealth, she said.
