Reflections 2012: Capitalism is the Source of Disasters, Khilafah is the Solution

The year 2012 will soon be over. Many events have occurred. Hizb notes that there are 10 important events and topics related to economic, political and social issues during the year 2012. First, our natural resources continue to be plundered by foreign powers. Second, corruption has not ceased and has become even more rampant. Third, labor issues remain to be solved. Fourth, law enforcement is weak; laws are chaotic while the law enforcers are dishonest. Fifth, the legislative processes are vested with capitalistic interests and harm the interests of the people. Sixth, horizontal conflicts reflect the widespread failures of the concept of unity in diversity. Seventh, growing juvenile delinquency is a reflection of the failure of the national education system. Eighth, the issues of terrorism and de-radicalization programs make Islam and Muslims as the enemies. Ninth, the repeated insult to the Prophet. Tenth, there is a turmoil in the the Islamic world.
As a response to this blurry portrait which is getting even murkier from year to year, Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia puts some important recommendations to ponder. Firstly, every application of the secular system, i.e. a system that is not sourced from Allah, the Creator of man, life and the universe, the All-Knowing, in various fields of life, will definitely cause damage and harm to the human race. The control of natural resources by foreign powers, gloomy labor situation, rampant corruption in all pillars of life, relentless horizontal conflicts, growing delinquency and crimes among adolescents are the evidence of the damage and loss of the system.
In addition to the oppressions suffered by people in many countries, the insult to the Prophet Muhammad has been persistent. The difficulty to change it to the course of Islam is obstructed by the West, which does not relinquishcontrol over the Muslim territories. This should make us realize to hasten back to the right path, which is the path blessed by God, and leave all forms of kufr (unislamic) systems and ideologies, particularly capitalism that has obviously damages and is detrimental to the human race.

Secondly, in theory, democracy is a system that gives space to the will of the people. However, in reality, the Western countries never let people in the Muslim countries to bring their countries towards Islam. They always try to keep implementating the secular system veiled with Islam, while the rulers are still willing to compromise with the West.

This is happening right now in this country, as seen from the legislative process in parliament and the policies adopted by the government, especially in the field of economics and politics, which is reflected in the war on terrorism program with pro-Western interests.

The West seems to keep their grips on the turbulent Muslim countries such as Syria, Egypt and other countries in the Middle East. Even Palestine, which has been recognized as a political entity, is still not a country in the real sense.

This fact should also warn the Muslims not to be easily co-opted by the interests of the imperialist states. It is also a warning to the authorities elsewhere to rule correctly, with sincere devotion for the sake of the truth of Islam, and not to indulge in their greediness of power and loyalty to the imperialist states.

The enactment of legislation that would silence the aspirations of the people, such as the bill of National Security and similar legislations, may be effective for a while, but sooner or later it will backfire on the ruling establishment itself.

Thirdly, therefore, if we want to truly escape from the twist of the problems in this country as described above, we have to choose a good system and a trustworthy leader. The only good system is the one which comes from the Supreme Good, which is the Islamic law and the trusted ruler who is willing to submit himself to the system.

This is the essence of the call ‘Save Indonesia with Sharia’ initiated by Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia. It is only with a system based on Sharia law, and led by a khalifah, Indonesia and the world will be in good condition. It is in this system that there are transcendental values in daily activities which will fortify everyone to work sincerely, uncontaminated by the interests of person, groups and foreign powers.

The Islamic system has a clear paradigm that ruling is a trust from Allah and that Sharia is the only way to contribute the virtues and the blessing of Islam to the whole universe, so that occupation can be wiped off from the face of the earth. Allahu Akbar! (Farid Wadjdi)
