Statement of Hizb ut Tahrir Indonesia

“CONDEMN MASS DEATH PENALTY IN EGYPT”

As it is widely reported by media that the Egypt court in El Minya, about 200 km from Cairo has recommended the death penalty for 683 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood including the leader of its group Mohamed Badie on 28th of April 2014. It is the second mass verdict after violent protests against the deposing of President Morsi last year. The court also instructs to confiscate Muslim Brotherhood’s quarters and declares its activities as illegal. Following the overthrow of President Morsi, thousands of Muslim Brotherhood members have been arrested. Morsi, the deposed president, is also prosecuted in the cases against him. He will get death penalty if proven guilty.

Many parties protest the court’s decision. They point out the Egypt Court satisfied the regime’s desire that is supported by military and former Secretary of Defense Abdel Fattah al Sisi now a presidential candidate. Defense lawyer, Mohamed Abdel Wehab said that the court has violated the rights of the accused to get plea. According to him, a murder case needs a year to two years of process before decisions but in this case, the accused have been sentenced completely in the first trial. Indeed, Egypt’s Military is ambitious to end the Muslim Brotherhood because it is feigned as a threat for the ruling regime.

Regarding this, Hizb ut Tahrir Indonesia is performing a solidarity stand before the Egyptian Embassy in Jakarta declaring:

1. Condemn the mass death penalty recommended by the Egyptian court. Clearly, the verdict is to intimidate and scare people. The decision is not objective but politically motivated. Thus this decision is not worthy to be recommended by the court where its existence is to protect people from tyranny and a place to seek justice. The decision is also contradictive with Islamic sharia. Sentencing innocent people without reason is like killing all of humanity.

2. Condemn western hypocrisy especially the United States who always calls for democracy but it supports the military to overthrow President Morsi who was elected democratically. The US always calls to respect human rights but on the contrary, it allows injustice and silently supports Egyptian military to slaughter hundreds of people without reason.

3. Call for Muslims to work seriously for the establishment of Khilafah. Only Khilafah can realize security, safety and true justice as well as the protection of blood, honor and wealth of people.

“Verily! Allah commands that you should render back the trusts to those, to whom they are due; and that when you judge between men, you judge with justice. Verily, how excellent is the teaching which He (Allah) gives you! Truly, Allah is Ever All-Hearer, All-Seer..” [An- Nisa: 58]
