Muslimah Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia Rejects Miss World Pageant in Bogor

Mediaumat.com-Even though there is a guarantee from the West Java Governor that there will be no bikini contest at the Grand Final of the Miss World Pageant in Bogor in September, Muslimah Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia state its firm rejection to the contest  of the universal pageant.

“We reject Miss World Pageant because this contest is one of the symbols of exploitation of women under the pretext of self-empowerment and exploration of the candidates’ potentials, in addition, Miss Universe and Miss Pageant are the icons of pornography and exploitation of women, “said the spokeswoman of Muslimah Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia, Iffah Ainur Rohmah, to mediaumat.com (8/4).

According to Iffah, West Java Province’s Governor Ahmad Heryawan (known as Aher) who ensures that there would be no bikini contest, pretends not to understand the real issues and seems to consider the opposition to Sharia is only in terms of bikini.
“That is improper attitude shown by a Muslim leader. Isn’t that its basic principle already in conflict with Sharia law? Placing women as if they are clothes hanger, ” regrets Iffah.

Iffah also said: “By granting his permission to the contest, it proves that democracy is in favour of business interests, and has dragged a leader to forget the guidance of religion and turned him into a secular person.”

The Facts of the Contest

Iffah stated that the contests such as Miss World drag the women and exploit them in uncivilized competition that indulge in private parts, whose achievement is measured by the attractiveness of their body and treated as if they are clothes hanger used to display the latest model of clothes in order to attract buyers.

It should also be understood, Iffah explains, that the absence of bikinis does not mean there is no pornography. The participants still have to walk in such a way to attract people’s attention in front of strange men, as well as in front of cameras that will sell the pictures as pornographic products.

“The Governor should have known that not wearing bikinis does not mean there is no swimsuit contest, one piece swimsuit contest still exists,” she said.

HTI Muslim Women rejects the immoral event, lets alone it is held in the largest Muslim country. “This could be a justification that Muslims justify the rampant pornography,” she predicts.

She also states that Islam places women in a noble position, as the honor of a family even of a nation. Women are thus respected, not exploited. There is no place for those who want to put them as the appeal of products, or satisfying the lust by watching women to show off their private parts and will not be allowed if there are women who want to show their nakedness.

The value of a woman is determined by her piety and contribution to the goodness and the betterment of society. Thus, glorious women are not those who have proportional physical sizes, but those who are pious and knowledgeable, dedicated their time, knowledge and wealth for the benefits of the ummah.
